Lineage
Guruji taught in this room
In 1991, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois taught at the House of Yoga and Zen. The shala has stayed in the traditional Mysore method ever since: breath, gaze, and a practice that meets you where you are.

The shala
A wooden room with a long memory
Opened in 1987 on a tomato farm in Haiku. Nancy Gilgoff, the first American woman to learn Ashtanga under Guruji, directed the shala through 2023. Practitioners still come from across the world to practice in this room.
